The ‘Women and Media Conference: Representations Past and Present 2012′ is the annual postgraduate conference of the First Mondays Research Forum at Queen’s University Belfast. This forum acts as a meeting place fro academics interested in gender and sexuality studies.
This year’s conference aims to open a dialogue about the conflicting influences of the press on the daily lives of women. It will provide a platform for discussion about such diverse subjects as: the ojectification of women; the pornification of culture; women and power in the media; the victimisation and vilification of women; the cult of celebrity; the influence of blogging and social networking; politics; the treatment of gendered issues such as rape and abortion.
All academics and activists with an interest in gender studies are invited to attend. If you would like to present your work, please see our call for papers.
